What are Colombian shapewear and what advantages do they have?
Girdles are garments designed to shape the figure and serve different purposes. Whether you need daily compression, control specific areas of your body, for your postpartum period or for your post-surgical recovery. Most people have the belief that all Colombian girdles have the same purpose: to hide those extra kilos and stylize our figure. This is correct, but up to a point. Not all bodies are the same or have the same needs
How to put on a girdle?
We have a School Nurse or Health Clerk on campus 5 days/week. Your child will be evaluated and treated immediately. You will be called right away if the injury is severe, or if your child needs to go home due to illness.
- Stretch the body shaper, it helps to make it softer and more prepared at the moment of putting it on.
- If you’re trying a long-length girdle design, sit down and roll the girdle in your hands, tuck one of the legs in, bring it up to the knee and then tuck the other leg in.
- If the girdle has anti-roll silicone lace hemlines you have to bend them before you stick your legs in.
- Get up and pull up the girdle to cover your thighs and make sure the seams are lined up in the inside of your thighs.
- Make sure to arrange the shapewear to completely cover the buttocks, stretch, and fit the bands in place.
- Place the straps, shoulders, or sleeves on each of the arms. Again stretch or pull up the girdle to remove wrinkles.
- Stretch the ends of the body shaper toward the center and if you have excess skin, take it to the sides to make the adjustment easier, either zipper or hooks.
Is language course optional?
We highly recommend you to let your child learn one foreign language because it's very easy to learn another language in their childhood. But language course is optional.
Tips to put on a shapewear
- Sometimes girdles don’t provide the expected effect, or you can feel they are very tight and uncomfortable. It happens when you don’t know your body type or don’t take the measurements of your waist and hips to know the actual size you need so you can choose the right one.
- The right compression shapewear must give you a good fit. Neither very tight nor very loose, since in none of these cases it’ll be or feel convenient for you.
- If you’ve had a specific size wearing a body shaper for a long time, and you’ve managed to adjust it until the last level of hooks, then it is recommended that you take these measurements again to ask for one size less than the current one. By doing this, you can continue with your shaping process properly.
- Taking your measurements is pretty important. In each of our Colombian girdles collections, you will find a size chart to help you figure out what size you should buy.
How to choose the perfect Colombian shapewear?
- Choose the correct size garment: Always be guided by the size chart according to each faja. You will find it in the product gallery of each product.
- Identify your body shape: There are different body types. Some of them and the most common are: Rectangle body, Hourglass body, Triangle body, Inverted Triangle body and Oval body.
- Choose the compression level: Define the level of compression you want according to your needs, it can be from low, medium and high compression to maximum compression.
- Choose the correct size garment: Always be guided by the size chart according to each faja. You will find it in the product gallery of each product.
How to know what my body type is?
- Rectangle Body Shape: It is one of the most common body types among women. Most super-models have this body shape which means most clothes are designed for this. The rectangle body shape has an athletic appearance, where hips and bust are balanced. A waist cincher, a shaper vest, a faja bodysuit, or a short length body shaper are ideal girdles for a rectangle body type.
- Oval Body Shape: Women with this body type usually have a not very defined waist and rounded shoulders. Some suggestions about the best compression garments to complement your oval figure are: a bodysuit girdle, mid-thigh shapewear, or shapers with hook-and-eye closures.
- Triangle Body Type: The triangle body type is known for having hips wider than shoulders. The bust is usually small, and legs are prominent. For a triangle body type, we recommend a knee-length, short, or mid-thigh design.
- Inverted Triangle Body Type: Women with an inverted triangle body type have their upper half larger than their hips. The girdles recommended for an inverted triangle body type are: vest or body girdles with wide straps.
- Oval Body Shape: Women with this body type usually have a not very defined waist and rounded shoulders. Some suggestions about the best compression garments to complement your oval figure are: a bodysuit girdle, mid-thigh shapewear, or shapers with hook-and-eye closures.
How to choose the compression level?
- Seamless Shapewear: Low compression. These are thinner garments that smooth your silhouette while being comfortable, but they do not provide much support.
- Triconet girdles: Medium compression. These girdles offer more support and control to mold the figure. Triconet is a very comfy and cool material, ideal for daily use, special occasions, and also as post-surgical stage 1 shapewear.
- Powernet Shapewear: High Compression. Shapewear made with Powernet gives you firm compression and excellent support to help you sculpt and shape, besides visually reducing inches. Due to its versatility, it is a highly recommended material for daily, postpartum and post-surgical use.
- Latex Shapewear: Maximum compression. This is the max compression you will find in girdles. Latex is an ideal material to powerfully smooth the figure. If you have recent scars or are recovering from surgery, we DON'T recommend girdles made from this material.
- Check the type of material of your girdle to know what type of compression it has.

It is a fact that girdles have a fairly long lifespan, but all things have an expiration date. Girdles can lose their compression or boning firmness over the years. We recommend changing your girdle now and then and even have another one while the other is being washed.
Can I wash machine my Colombian girdle?
Preferable, no. Colombian Girdles should be hand washed because the machine could alter the shape and fabric. We recommend you to use soft products with a balanced Ph and a soft cloth (not a brush) to remove stains.
